Responsible gambling
Gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money. Here is how to stay in control.
Licensed UK operators must offer tools to help you manage your gambling: deposit limits, loss limits, session timers, reality checks, and self-exclusion. Using these tools early is a sign of good judgement, not weakness.
Setting limits
Before you deposit, set a daily, weekly, or monthly deposit limit in your account settings. Most operators let you decrease limits immediately; increases typically require a cooling-off period of 24 hours or more. Loss limits and session time reminders work the same way — configure them before you start playing, not after a bad session.
GamStop self-exclusion
GamStop is a free UK service that blocks your access to all UKGC-licensed gambling sites for six months, one year, or five years. Registration is at gamstop.co.uk. Once active, licensed operators must refuse your account. GamStop is the broadest exclusion tool available in Great Britain.
Warning signs
- Chasing losses with bigger deposits than planned
- Borrowing money or selling possessions to gamble
- Hiding gambling activity from family or friends
- Feeling anxious or irritable when not gambling
- Neglecting work, study, or relationships because of gambling
